Humphry is best known for his work on the therapeutic potential of psychedelic substances, particularly with the use of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and mescaline. He conducted pioneering studies on the effects of these substances, exploring their psychological & therapeutic properties. Mr. Osmond believed that psychedelics had the potential to assist in the treatment of various mental health conditions, including alcoholism & schizophrenia.

In addition to his research, Osmond collaborated with renowned counterculture figures such as Aldous Huxley & Timothy Leary. He corresponded with Huxley & administered mescaline to him, which influenced Huxley's book "The Doors of Perception." Osmond’s work with Leary, created the psychedelic renegade We know Timothy Leary to be.

It is widely accepted that Osmond is the one who came up with the term "psychedelic" in a letter to Huxley in 1957. Derived from the Greek words "psyche" (mind) & "delos" (manifest), the term refers to the mind-manifesting or mind-revealing properties of certain substances.

Humphry Osmond made significant contributions to our understanding of psychedelics & their potential therapeutic applications. His research & the term he coined continue to have a lasting impact on the field of psychiatry & psychedelic science.
